Barbeque Season

Well, Scotland sees it fair share of rain and that’s certainly been the case this month! Every year we have a barbeque when all our friends and family take the opportunity to get together, catch up and just have a fun day enjoying good food, wine, and a sing a long with the karaoke king and queen. I love cooking and entertaining and for me the presentation of the food makes all the difference. Whether you are hosting a formal dinner party or informal barbeque the tableware is as important as the food. Our shop stocks a larger collection of tableware than the website so if you can please come see us in Troon. We have lovely serving dishes, dips and olive plates, slate cheeseboards and serving plates, with high quality olive-wood cheeseboards arriving soon. Our collection also includes a selection of salad bowls, salad servers, wicker food domes and wine carriers, all perfect for outdoor dining. Let us help you to create some summer evening ambience, our latest range of tlights, hanging tlights and lanterns include morrocan style, wooden and metal lanterns and a range of colourful and interesting hanging tlights. Du Veldt Interiors Shop

We opened our first shop in the South Ayrshire coastal town of Troon in October 2010, and I’m finally catching my breath to get back to updating this blog! Troon is the perfect place for a great day out, plenty of interesting little independent shops to browse around, loads of great coffee shops and places for a nice lunch. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the seafront, or blow away the cobwebs depending on the weather.

Since opening we have received a warm welcome from the local people of Troon, and other visitors to the town, thanks to everyone who have visited us! We have been getting some great feedback, people love to see something that just a little bit different, and lots of people are loving our range of South African artwork. We currently have a sale on, there are lots of bargains to be had, so hurry along here if you can.

We have some new ranges coming in soon, with lovely tableware from Paris, and gorgeous candles and lanterns from Copenhagen. The thought of summer and al fresco dining fills me with delight! Can’t wait for summer! We also have lots of girlie gift ideas for Valentines Day, so come on fellas, you know what to do…

New Shop coming soon in Troon

We are busy trying to get our new shop ready to open in the next two weeks. We are at 31 Portland St, right in the heart of the lovely Ayrshire coastal town to Troon. We thought Troon was the ideal place for our shop, as has a thriving town with lots of interesting independent shops, great coffee shops and loads of lovely places to have lunch. It’s perfect destination for a girls day out, shopping, lunch, wine.

Our new shop will have a beautiful collection of occasional furniture, arts and accessories. We have sourced some lovely products for wining and dining, great as we approach the season for entertaining. If like me, you have a soft spot for great artwork, we have some fabulous work from Russian artist, Maria Rudd, beautifully framed and ready to hang on your wall.

Keep you posted on our official opening day, where we will be serving wine and chocolates.

Scottish Homes & Interiors Show

We recently teamed up with our friends at Christos Gallery to exhibit at the Scottish Homes & Interiors show in SECC in Glasgow. Thanks to everyone to came along to visit our stand, it was a great weekend. The show was packed full of inspiration for homes of all shapes and sizes. The Art Gallery section this year was fantastic with such a variety of artists’ work all under the same roof. It was a great opportunity to let people know about our new shop coming soon in Troon, more info to come on that! We received great feedback from everyone on our fab range of hand blown glass from one of South Africa’s top glass art studios, and our ceramic art pieces were very popular for gifts or people just deciding to treat themselves.

Making The Small Seem Big

One of the first things that people like to do when they move into a new home is put their own stamp on it. This can be anything from contemporary furniture accessories, colour schemes or even themes. When they move in to their new home the chances are that there is one room which is smaller than the rest, this can often be a challenge to even the best of interior designers.

When decorating a smaller room there are certain tips that you should stick to, for example, keep to light colours as this will give the appearance of space and don’t place too much furniture as this will clutter up your already small space. However, one of the best ways of making any small space seem bigger is by using mirrors.

When most of us decide that now is the right time to revamp our living room, we can spend an outrageous amount of time and money looking for the right pieces of furniture and accessories, after all, the living room primarily is the focal room in most homes.

Once the furniture is purchased and in place we can stand back and admire all our hard work, as it flows thoughout the room, each piece (hopefully) complimenting the next. However, we all know that it’s the finishing touches, such as contemporary accessories, that complete a room and give it that personal touch.

The Great British Al Fresco Dining Plans

Every summer in Britain millions of people head off on their annual holidays, for some, this entails trips to foreign shores, while for others, holidaying in the Great British Outdoors is becoming a popular choice. Of course, one of the main problems with camping/caravanning holidays is the weather. However, this aside, the rise in popularity of these type of holidays shows that us Brits do love the experience that the outdoors lifestyle brings.

Perhaps, having all this fresh air is the cause for another popular pastime – Al Fresco dining. Having family and friends sitting round the same table enjoying good food and the occasional bottle of wine is a great way to relax and have some fun. Again, we are up against the great BBQ nemesis in this country – the weather, however, erecting a small gazebo can normally overcome and make sure your Al Fresco dining plans don’t get washed away.
