After the long dark nights of our cold snowy winter, the first signs of Spring are just around the corner with snowdrops appearing everywhere, and the late afternoons getting a bit lighter. I think it's a time of optimism, and taking a fresh look at all things around us. It's popular time to think about refurbishing your home or indulging in a spot of DIY for those long awaited jobs.
Colours for 2010 will see purple continuing to flourish, with the trend for grey set to continue in 2010. Grey is the new beige, and combines well with purple and yellow. Designers are producing rich and interesting combinations of grey and fushia, grey and teal, and matte and shiny combinations of grey together are provong popular.
I recently went on a buying trip, and there seemed to be a forward movement towards natural woods, driftwood and rattan, combined with fresh linens, and bringing outdoors in, with great lavenders, olive trees, creating that lovely country cottage feel, which I love.
Trends for some people mean the pieces you buuy one year and discard the next when they no longer appear in the interiors mags. I personally favour mixing accessories, investing in a few key pieces, and combining well with less expensive decorative pieces. Mixing vintage and new, with pieces you have bought on your travels that hold a story, are the feature accessories that make your home so personal and special to you.
Personal taste and decor that meets your needs are always in style, and most importantly your home is your space to freely express your personality, and have fun doing it.
